The Victoria Class is one of the largest, least expensive and most popular R/C one-design model yacht classes in the United States. It is almost 31” long and weighs just 4 ½ pounds. It is available in kit form from the local hobby shop in Bakersfield for about $100 without radio transmitter. Fabricated of ABS plastic, it is simple to assemble. Because of its small size, it is easily transportable in the family car to sailing venues.

BMYC has available a Victoria Building Guide for those who want upgraded rigging, spars and sails for competitive racing at a nominal additional cost. With all improvements added, an upgraded Victoria ready to race with custom sails is less than $300. Rather than building just a “kit” boat, it may be worth the additional cost and effort to build one that has been proven by BMYC skippers to be “fast” for racing. Chris Staiger, our own Vic designer, was Victoria National Champion in 2006.

As others have often said, the only thing better than sailing your Victoria on a lazy Sunday afternoon by yourself, is racing another Vic skipper to test and sharpen your sailing skills!
