2019 RACE RESULTS

Normal day in Bakersfield.  Very little wind.  A floating race day for sure.  Only six races run on little Cherry Lake. Hoping for more wind next time.

We had very light and variable winds today causing frustration and satisfaction, depending on where you were on the race course at the time. Two new members participated.  Dick McCoy came away with the big win for the 2019 High Point Series.  Judy was second and Ron was third.

The following photos below are the sequence start of a race to day.  Ron is making a port tack start over everybody.  Good move Ron.  He goes on to reach the windward mark first.  Stan, Judy and Dave follows.  Ron wins the day with 7 out of 12 first place finishes. Everyone else just follows.  Dave had some electric problems with batteries, etc.  Check here for the hand written score sheet  HERE.

Great sailing day...not too hot.  The wind rather gave out after 9 heats, so we quit early. Here is the hand written score sheet... HERE.
2017 RACE RESULTS

What a beautiful day at Riverwalk.  The clouds were fantastic.  The wind was near perfect, probably about 6-10 mph.  The best sailing day in Bakersfield in a long while. Everyone had fun. Nothing broke.  What could be better?
This is the original hand-writtenl score sheet HERE.

Only three skippers should up today for various reasons.   For the original hand-written score sheet ...click HERE.

2016 RACE RESULTS
Picture
We had eight (8) Victoria Class boats on the water today for our first High Point Race day of the year.   Great turnout but the wind failed to show up.  Managed to drift through 9 races before the race day was abandoned.  Richard drifted faster than anyone else and won the day with 7 out of 9 first place finishes.  Hope the wind picks up in a couple of weeks when we sail our Footy Class.  Even these little boats need some wind to sail.

Five skippers sailed their Victoria Class model sailboats today at RiverWalk, behind the Target Store.  Wind was pretty good, BUT the clouds and sky were simply BEAUTIFUL to see.  Several people came by to watch and practice sailing our boats.  Richard won the day again with 10 firsts out of 12 races for 51 points.  John Acord was second in scoring with 32 points. Congratulations John!

The day looked forward to a good wind...and it was...between 8 to 10 mph, although with a few lulls to almost zero.  Boat problems hexed Dick, Judy and Ron.  Dick was able to restart after the first 3 races.  Judy dropped out after the first three races. Ron was never able to get his boat problems solved, so he didn't compete.  Richard won 4 firsts. Stan and Dick won the other two firsts.  The number of heats were reduced because we sailed both the Victorias as well as the Soling 50s.  I might mention that the WEEDS were definitely a problem today.  Just about everyone had weeds on their keels after every race.

Although no one actually knew it, the was a tight battle for second place in the Victoria Championship Regatta.  Without any throw outs, Stan would have won 2nd place.  But with the throw outs, which is allowed for a one day regatta, Ron Berg won 2nd place by one point.  Congratulations to Ron.  The weather was near perfect for sailing with plenty of wind, 5 to 8 mph.  We had six boats on the starting line and it was lots of fun.

This was the last of four race days for the Victoria High Point series of 2016.  The winds were variable, very good at times and then there were other times.  We sailed only 6 heats with Richard winning 4 races, Stan 1 and John 1.   John, Judy and Ron all had boat problems, dealing with batteries. But that's sailing in these toy boats.

2015 RACE RESULTS

Picture
The wind forecast was 0 mph with gusts to 2 mph.  It was better than that.  We had light and variable winds up to 5 mph, so the sailing turned out to be great fun...after about 1 PM.  Richard, of course, led the day with 8 first place finishes out of 12 heats.  Stan has 2 firsts, with Judy and Dick 1 each. Although Dave did not race the first 4 heats, he came on strong with three 2nd place finishes.  Ron was always in there and overall it was very close for the five places after the leader.  All in all, it was a very good day for sailing our Victoria Class Model sailboats.

The wind today was pretty good at the River Walk lake and the fishermen were sparse.  Rand Cox with his new Victoria sailed with us for the first time. (Photos on the left)
Richard French dominated us all, winning 11 out of 12 races.  Ron Berg won one heat.  We all see a lot of Richard from behind these days.  Let's all try harder!!!

This morning we sailed the Footys.  This afternoon, we sailed the Victorias.  Wind was a little better.  Richard won 10 of the 12 heats.  Ron Berg won one race and Dick McCoy won the other.  We had two new sailors today, John Accord and his son Sean.  John has built a "Silver" (stock) Victoria...but today he sailed our Club boat #804 and Sean sailed Dave's boat #79.  Stan withdrew after 6 heats.

This was the final race day for the 2015 Victoria High Point Series.  Four sailors turned out. Richard dominated again, BUT...John  Acord came through with three wins for second place for the day.  Nice going John.  Richard mentioned that "Good day racing at river walk winds come an go grass more than I like but Tolerable ."

Five sailors turned out today for the Victoria Club Championships.  Pretty good since it was over 100 degrees outside.  The winds started out nice between 5 and 10 mph, but ended up at zero.  That's why only 10 heats were sailed instead of the usual 12.  The water was a mirror at about 3:30 PM and it started to sprinkle a short time later.  Richard won the Championship handily with 6 wins out of 10 heats.  Stan won 3 heats and Dick won one heat.  John Acord sailed with us for the first time in his newly purchased boat #804.  John did well as this was his second racing experience with a Victoria.  Judy, well Judy, what can I say, she had no end to her problems.  Her transmitter came apart and wouldn't work after the first heat.  Judy went home to get another transmitter and just before heat 7, she had a small explosion and fire in her Victoria, burning her fingers. The boat survived so she went on to race the last few heats, but it was not a good day for her. This was not Friday the 13th, but it seemed like it for Judy.

Race day was uneventful, but beautiful.  Temps in the high 70's.  Front lake at River Walk was crawling with fishermen, but no conflicts with our sailing.  Wind between 2 & 5 mph, very fluky and changing constantly. Richard, as usual, was dominant. Judy had one first place and Stan had two.

Another great sailing day at River Walk.  Ron Berg returned from his annual hiatus to Vietnam.  Ron won 5 out of 12 heats. Richard French won the rest, as usual.  Darren Howard also sailed with us using our club-owned Victoria #804.  Darren evidently was jinxed today.  His Victoria lost it's mast (broken side stay), but he brought out his trusty fishing pole and managed to catch his first sailboat. Congratulations to Darren...a first of some kind?

Picture
This was a very frustrating sail day.  The wind varied from zero to 3-4 mph and changed direction every few minutes.  What was most aggravating was the weeds.
In many cases, the winner of a heat was the boat with the fewest weeds around their keels or rudders....as everyone had caught some.
We decided to hold the next race day at Riverlakes, near the clubhouse.  In spite of all the adverse conditions, plus temps close to 100 degrees,  Richard came through as usual with  8 out of 12 wins.  Judy and Stan had 2 first place finishes.  Darren, having never sailed before, is learning fast  sailing our club boat.  It takes some practice Darren.  Don't get discouraged.  We have all been there in your place before.  :-)
