New sailboat?....Is there a new model sailboat class coming to Bakersfield? We will all know as soon as Chris Staiger convicts a few more murderers and has some time to put it all together. It's called a 15" long "Footy". Should be interesting, since a "Footy" is supposed to be One Foot Long! He has some great ideas, steming from his background in mechanical engineering, combined with his experience as a prosecuting Assistant District Attorney. I'm sure this 15" long "Footy" will be well designed and within the rules! Check out the new AMYA Website for the "Footy" at: Footy Class.

2008 FAIRWIND CLASS HIGH POINT SERIES (Saturday, August 9th)
Saturday, August 9th, was a great day for sailing at Riverlakes. The wind was perfect, up to 10+ mph, generally, with a few dead spots, from time to time. Temperatures were moderate in the 90's. We raced 9 nine races with the Fairwinds and had lots of talk-time about sailing in general and about the Fairwind Class & the Victoria Class's problems.
As you all know, the Fairwind 900 Class (Plastic ABS boat) as we know it has been discontinued by KYOSHO and replaced with a fiberglass version, the Fairwind III. We may try out a Fairwind III and see how it stacks up to the Fairwind 900. Stan may buy one from Racer's Haven ($375.00) and see how it compares. The future of the Fairwind Class with AMYA depends on the outcome.
The Victoria Class has it's own problems, with Thunder Tiger making changes to the lead keel bulb in it's current production boat. Since "lead" is no longer an accepted material for shipping international, there were changes made by Thunder Tiger to the bulb sizes as well as weights. The 'sailing community in AMYA' wants to standardize on the weights and may end up with a separate producer for just keel bulbs. We will see.
We also talked about introducing another other class of R/C boats to the BMYC family...the ODOM. It has lots of advantages of being smaller and easier to transport (one meter long = 39.4 inches) and handle, and it seem to be very popular in on the West Coast. If the Fairwind does not turn out, perhaps the ODOM will.

A friend of Phil Scrivano, Dave Morrison, came by to see our races. Dave sailed Stan’s Fairwind for awhile and seemed interested in getting involved in our sailing activities. Dave is a big boat sailor, and airplane modeler looking to get into to R/C model sailing. We look forward to seeing Dave in the future.
Phil was not able to attend, since he was in Wisconsin over the weekend on business. Judy Madsen stopped by to say hello. Her daughter, Gwenn is in the hospital, undergoing some tests, so was not able to sail with us. We are all praying for Gwenn.
Everyone check out the Olympic Sailing at: www.nbcolympics.com.
The coverage is great with start to finish videos for the sailing events.
Best wishes and good sailing,
Stan
